Cheers guys, Matchbox Commandos are still fairly common over here in the 2nd hand market, Airfix 2nd run ones can sometimes be picked up as well.
Airfix and Matchbox Commando's are fairly limited in wargaming I believe (Al will tell you different I am sure!) just for the fact they all are wearing headovers, come on look at the pic's, they wore helmets for most of the time, and were clones of the Infantry uniforms and equipment (except for higher TOE of automatic wpns and fancy pig stickers from Fairbairn-Sykes) so I have no qualms about coverting these figures.
They are well thoughtout poses for the most part and probably could have put out the set with helmets and called them infantry (without the kayaks of course).
I will sit by my phone now waiting for Al to abuse me...yipes!!!
Easternfunker, the gasbags are at the front of the battledress, and were housed there until about early 1941 when they chucked them away, in the belief that Gas was not going to be used.
Theys only limited in gaming because we don't go rushing about caryying loads of sh!t you hardly ever use, clinging desperately to great lumps of metal crawling forward making a lot of noise and attracting a lot of unwanted attention. Kayaks are for the SBS, not that there's anything wrong with kayaks. Marines are nothing like infantry, you can tell this because infantry do not carry a fighting knife, and are frequntly observed to be opening bottles of beer with the bayonette of an SA80, nuff said!
You keep churning out some nifty conversions !
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that you're not afraid to use treasured Matchbox vintage figs either.
Great stuff - keep 'em coming mate.
Cheers,
John
