Matchbox T-80B MBT Pt3 Final

I spent yesterday on the range finishing my last qualification shoot of the year, a close run thing fitting it in prior to the first! However yesterday morning I managed to decal the T80 with the original transfers from the kit. They were not the best, but pressed for time I used them anyway.
Bluetac used to mask the cam scheme, and I believe it came out all right. It does remind me of British NATO schemes from the 70's and 80's however.
Closer detail shot on turret, some mild weathering can be seen.
Another shot showing the front of the hull. The front mudguards are actually rubber and tend to cut up and wear. I used the knife a little here.
Overall a good wee kit, with only a few defects and sink marks. I have a couple of T72's on the way to join it and will complete a similar scheme on them.

T80 Tank Commander

Construction on the Matchbox T80 is drawing to a close with the paint drying as I type. I shall look at some decals tomorrow, just a three digit numeral shall suffice. Al asked about what I was using for a crew figure, so here he is...Markov an ex ESCI Warsaw Pact Tank crewman.
I painted the half that you actually see, then cut off his base. Grabbing a lump of bluetac I stuffed it into the bottom of the commanders hatch in the turret, then pressed Markov in. I think he will be happy in there, well I have heard no complaints as of yet...

Panther Paradise!

Of course it's every mans dream to spend their holidays getting stuck into the hash box and having a good sort out. I reckon out of this lot I will get at least 4-5 'Runners' out of this mess.
Matchbox,Airfix and a Hasegawa (I think)...All waiting for a call to duty. While I have items drying I will start the process.
Current Panther status, Matchbox, Airfix and a Nitto. With the repairs to the others I hope to be able to field a CD3 44/45 Battalion. Another Matchbox Panther is lurking in a box somewhere (I hope). Side skirts are homemade and one of the central Panthers is sporting a 88mm gun...Rather naughty of it.

Matchbox T-80B MBT Pt2

Mating the hull top to the chassis after the pure joyless task of linking the tracklinks. No photos of the tracklink process mainly because I hated that much I forgot to capture the torture involved.
Gun cleaning rods container and aux fuel drums. The drums are terrible and do not join correctly, and I was tempted to leave them off.
Hull lights, tow hooks and drivers hatch. The hatch can be left open which is a nice change, however I did not want to fluff around with a figure here.
Gun in the rear along with the turret assembly. The turret was a dream until the attaching of the Gun rod tube, I could not get the angles just right. Again the Commanders hatch can be left open and has some nice details on the inside. ESCI Warsaw Pact figure will be dropped in here. The AAMG is a little plain and lacks some detail and I thought of swapping it with the AAMG that comes with the Matchbox T34...I did not however as it looked a little to much work. The ammo tin for the AAMG however is a gem and looks spot on.

Matchbox T-80B MBT

More off track business here, this kit has been lying around for a few years now and needed to be included in my Musorian force's ORBAT. One of the very last of the Matchbox line to be produced, I am sure it was actually a Revell kit. In fact I am sure it can still be brought as a updated T-80 kit by them.
Stage by stage construction, nice fit here.
Engine rear cover.
Some simple assembly required for the main drive wheels.
Nice and clean moulds, no flash at all.
Easy assembly up until here, injection tracks were next...

Italeri Sd Kfz 234/3

Quick post tonight as the Cooks parents are here, and I must be sociable.
Desert Dave sent in these photo's of a kit I sent him last month for his Christmas gift.
More of a wargaming kit rather than a accurate model, it still comes out quite nicely.
I am pretty sure that the figures have been stolen from the Italeri Elite German Infantry set. This is a very cheap set here in NZ and retails for less than $10.00 NZD each, cheaper than the Airfix German armoured car!
I will let the photo's do the rest of the talking...

Cheers Dave.

Plane Month MIG 21F

This Plane month posting is from Desert Dave and concerns the Academy MIG 21. This kit is around 20 years old and is pretty basic in construction and detail.
This particular model is a F type and comes with two options in the decals, Soviet and Finnish.
I made one of these about 20 years ago and it is currently looking worse for wear at the local Army Hall as a training aid. Dave's kit looks much nicer and is a interesting comparison to Wests Airfix kit http://westmodelsandfigures.blogspot.com/2010/12/plane-month-airfix-mig-21-172.html
I am quite impressed with this given where he has constructed it. Cheers Dave.

Merry Christmas

All the best to one and all for tomorrow. May all your presents be at the very least useful or returnable.

Lastest Buy For Christmas

After much procrastination, I have finally purchased a set of Pegasus US Marines in Vietnam. This is my gift to myself for Christmas, and much to the amusement of the Cook I have wrapped these up and look forward to opening them up tomorrow morning...Ho, ho ho!

Airfix's 2011 Releases

With my Christmas breakup hangover beginning to end I note in my inbox a email from Airfix on next years range. The new 1/76 Cromwell will be a highlight, as well as the welcome return of the T34 and Type 97 Chi Ha tanks. However I am yet to see the new WW2 British Infantry promised for this year yet...

Wednesday's Website

A quick link for tonight's post. Kamouflage.net is a nice website with heaps of information and examples of camouflage clothing patterns and their history. Quite useful for painting research of which I am currently engaged in concerning modern era figures.

Off Track

I have managed to get myself a little off track from Plane Month, sometimes a change is as good as a holiday. For about four years I have had a few packets of Revell Modern German Armoured Infantry and Paratroopers sitting around waiting for their call to arms, and last night they were given a primer coat and flesh, then tonight a drybrush of ochre as a base to a Camouflage pattern.

I have long toyed around a semi modern project and lately have been building a force of equipment and figures to create a Order of Battle for a fictional country, Musoria springs to mind. I have quite a stash of 1980's-90's US forces that do not get any game time and I need to correct this. While 1980's Soviet and Warsaw Pact troops are out there in plastic, the vehicles and armour can be quite expensive down here in the colonies so with my limited budget they may be out of reach.

Where this might lead I do not know, but it does make a refreshing change from the WW2 armies. More to follow on this as things progress.

Airfix Buffalo Pt 2 : Oh Crap!

A wee bit more of the Construction of the Buffalo was achieved however after application of the Black primer coat I noticed that the propeller and spinner did not look quite right.
Further inspection of the aircraft revealed that I had mounted the engine too low in the nose, this resulted in the propeller assembly being too low as well. I had glued it in very well and could not get it out, and in the end this tinkering ended in breaking the propeller rod off completely.
Superglued it back in the correct position and hopefully I am now back on track. I also added what I think looks like a gun sight inside the canopy and placed something over the holes at the back of the cockpit where the lifeboat was in the US models as the Commonwealth production aircraft did not have these.

Airfix Buffalo Pt 1

The busiest time of the year sees me a little stretched modelwise, however I have been tinkering with a couple of things. I have began construction of the Airfix version of the Buffalo which for some perverse reason appeals to me. Perhaps it is bumblebee shape, or maybe it's reasonably poor service record with the RAF,RAAF and RNZAF, who knows but it was on the list for must builds.
Part one pretty straight forward, little bit of flash, easy to remove.
Second step, again little flash and pretty good fit.
Ok, it has raised rivets, get over it and sand them down a little. I am far to lazy to do this myself after all it would not be a Airfix kit if it did not have faults.
Engine and prop assembly simple and quick.
Three quarters finished. Total time minus drying about 30 minutes. I will be wheels up for this Buff and am looking at a generic Commonwealth scheme of 1941/42.

Wednesday's Website

Tonight's quick posting is on a website I pop into from time to time, Nicks Model Tanks http://home.comcast.net/~model_tanks/index.htm . Basically a nice website of confessions from a BAM (Born-again modeler!). Well worth a look.

1st Bn,2nd Regt Soviet Rifle Division 1943-45

While it may be Plane Month, it would be remiss of me to forget the other projects that pollute my bench top. So continuing on with my Soviet forces we have another three Battalion Regiment to add to my Divisional size army (Hopefully). Tonight the 1st Battalion minus its weapons Company, starting with the Command element above. New blue for the trousers of the Officers.
Rifle Company of two Platoons, stand on left Revell and on the right the old ESCI reds.
Second Company.
Third Company. Right, onto that Airfix Buffalo that has been begging for construction.
