After dry fitting some samples for the figures I intend to use I fitted the hatches and mated the turret with the hull assembly, and hey presto basic work completed.
Next I decided to add all the guff that treadheads love to add and modify their tracks with.Extra Roadwheels from a trashed Scorpion model, some packs and tarps from the spares box,Barbed wire coil from the Airfix command post set, bins, jerricans and ammo cans, again from the spares box and lastly I added two driving lights per Scorpion to replace the ones that are set into the hull frontage.
Those lights were only used in the prototype vehicles I believe, and when you think about it they are in a silly place. Kiwi tankers and fitters used Hella brand rally car lights I think, straight off the shelf. I am pretty sure that I saw some with the light covers still displaying the white Hella writing on a exercise in the 80's.
Black primer as per usual then desert yellow as the base for the red desert MERDC. Note the hair on the lens...Damn cat.
Looking good Paul and very inspirational,I can't remember the last time I built a good old tank kit,but seeing these is giving me the pangs again...:)
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
Monty
They look excellent. If you're looking for a crew, Kingfisher (http://www.kingfisherminiatures.co.uk/) has some.
ReplyDeleteHahaha :-D. Now you start to cover your tanks like gipsy waggons, too. Nice work, I like, I like!!
ReplyDeleteChris
Loving the added stowage - the Firefly stowage bin is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteBlimey mate!!! How fast are you!? It´s getting hard to keep up with your production :-D
ReplyDeleteCheers
Paul
I do like your NZ "clutter"
ReplyDeleteIt feels very "we do a lot with these vehicles" so "we need lots of spares"
Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI've got a mate who used to drive around in one when he was in the TFs - he's over 6'5"! I've never really figured how he fitted when it was all buttoned up!
Nick
Hi Monty, by the sounds of it, you need a armour fix. The Scorpion would be a nice choice. Not too easy and not too hard, and a choice of two versions.
ReplyDeleteCheers for the info Maurice I might have a gander at those but I have a few conversions in mind.
ReplyDeleteRegards Paul
Hi Chris. Treadheads are all alike the world over mate.
ReplyDeleteCheers Paul
Cheers Tim. Bins are the key to a working looking track rather than a parade ground model, Of which I sometimes seem to achieve.
ReplyDeleteHah Paul, It just seems like I do alot of work. I think it is the steps I take rather than the time put into the builds.
ReplyDeleteGiddy up!
Hi Geordie. Yeah it is much the case with Kiwi kit. And of course you need to carry lots of spares because we are a little optimistic of what we can actually do with our kit.
ReplyDeleteJingos Nick! 6 ft 5...that sounds like a sick joke mate. I doubt if he really enjoyed himself at the time!
ReplyDeleteGreat Model Paul :)
ReplyDeleteThose spares make it look like a classic Panzer if you get what I mean!
