Slaying The Stash 4: Airfix Sherman Finished

Completed the Sherman last night, hence the lack of natural light.
With the Matchbox 17 Pounder it sure cuts a mean profile. That gun is rather meaty!
After painting, I applied a light coating of desert yellow around the lower hull the dusted a mud colour (Japanese Uniform). Of course this completely overlaid the rubber I had painted on the running wheels.
Now with the Normal 75mm Turret, lame looking compared to the 17 Pounder I think.
Decals were from a very old Matchbox Firefly and probably will peel off after a week or so.
Normally I do not paint the sandbags, however to add some contrast I relented. Nice to get this off the table.

  1. Nicely painted Paul!
The additional parts give to the tanks some character!
Nice weathering also. The tracks are as they should be - DIRTY!

  2. The combination of Airfix hull and Matchbox turret is really rather good. Combining the Airfix turret and MB hull also works well of you need some early British (N Africa) Shermans with sand guards.

  3. Nice... Gotta love those old kits. I still think that Airfix makes the best wargaming StuGIII for instance. Do you plan to paint the underside of the barrel light grey to give the impression of a shorter barrel? Keep up the good work. You might shame us into getting more stuff done.

Decals: Get yourself some DecalFix from Humbrol or MicroSol or MicroSet

I cannot praise them highly enough

  6. Hi Thanos. Correct about the tracks, and easy to paint as well.

  7. Thats a good idea Tim, although if you are a rivet counter the lack of hull gun in the Matchbox kit is a easy target.

    Sod them!

  8. Dimitri, on my other Fireflies I have painted the false profile on the gun barrel.

    I am lazy...

Yes I think the StuG looks much better that the Armourfast offering.
