Airfix Bedford QLT

I have not posted for a few days due to some 1:1 scale painting on the fencing at the back of the Manor, complete waste of effort buying two brushes I must add, some it took twice as long as I thought. That's not to say I have not been doing anything up in the loft.

Last Christmas Al and I brought a set of Bedford trucks from Airfix in 1/76 scale. Each of us got one to increase our British and Commonwealth transport range. You can never have enough trucks, and Al completed his build in no time and can be seen here http://20thcenturywargames.blogspot.com/2011/02/truck-progress-2.html .

I decided it was high time to catch up. What can I say about this kit, simple, well detailed and a pleasure to work with. The only issue I have is that the rear axle is missing. As Al had the box with both kits in it before me, I think its safe to blame him for that.
I hash built a rear axle out of the sprue and left to set for the night, this looked good until I checked it this morning.
Running a little low at the rear. So I ripped this off and started again.
This time I added a extra bit of height to fix it.
Lovely detail in the seating on the cargo deck, almost ready for a undercoat.

Another four years, my Cousins across the ditch!

  1. Haven't been able to locate that part! Nice kit though all the same:)

  2. Given that you only bought this in december, I rate it as a quick build! Plastic kits should really be 'laid down' to mature for at least five years in order to get the best out of them. Interestingly (well sort of), the october page on my Airfix calendar features the Bedford QLs.

    Cheers Rich.

  6. Good thoughts Tim on the maturing process. Most impressed you have a Airfix Calender, thats the sign of a professional hoarder!

  9. If by 'professional hoarder' you really mean 'complete lack of willpower', you're spot on!

  10. Your lack of will power is noted Tim.

  11. I've never seen this Airfix kit - now I want one.

But I agree with Tim about the need to mature your kits - I have most of mine going back to the 1980s that I got on sale. Still in their boxes, still with sale stickers on them.

  12. I need to get a couple of these kits. Good on you Paul/Al proving trucks are as interesting/essential as tanks :)

  13. I have a number of kits sun of york, that may now be classed as in the retirement bracket.

I hope you manage to get into those kits from the 80's, I am sure there will be some gems in there.

    Regards Paul

  14. They are Geordie and they can be a good way to get over tank and figure overload. I also might add that if you do not use enough Transport on the table in CD3 you will be punished for it.

    Regards Paul
