For Cold War buffs, nothing is better than a good read of the 1977 Field Manuals 71-1 The Tank and Mechanized Infantry Company Team, and 71-2 The Tank and Mechanized Infantry Battalion Task Force. MERDC covers really bring them to life.
All you need to know about cracking the Red menace is displayed, in easy step by step diagrams.
Of course you can quite easily download the modern versions of these, but the 1977 version is a classic.

That's all well and good, but, from a 1977 New Zealand perspective...what attack helicopters?! A couple of UH-1s with a block poking out either side with their SLRs?!

I thought they could have got to 20 even in the last 5 minutes.
