Matchbox Jeep Mini Makeover

Sitting on the table for a few weeks now, the Jeep from the 17 Pounder set. I had planned on a conversion to a M151 MUTT, but could not be naffed. Base coat painted over donor paint job was a nice flat black, but it was a little thick.
Again I decided on the Black and OD2 disruptive scheme. The Base black is on the bonnet compared to the lighter shade on the tarp.
Missing are the tarp rails, but again the thought of scratch building these led me to leave them off. Touch up on the figure.
In true light to get a better idea of the colours. This took a little longer than I thought it would as I was constantly changing my mind on the black.
Again waiting for a night of decal fun. I have noticed the reason I like the Matchbox Jeep is probably that the front wheels seem to be set rather forward compared to other kits.

Airfix Halftrack next

  5. Nice little vehicle...
I´ve been thinking...you know those stick on circles that come on a sheet..all different colours and sizes for marking calenders etc..?? They might work for creating the cammo effect.

  7. I think the Matchbox version is my favourite Jeep in that scale. Nice restoration.

  10. Thanks Thanos, not quite there yet with the round edges. The Driver is the Standard Matchbox/Revell figure for the set.

He is a little gem too.

    Cheers Paul

  11. Hi Fran, I toyed with a MP jeep myself, but thought better of it...Redcaps put me off.

Mind you if Tamzin Outhwaite came with it it would be a different matter.

    Cheers Paul

  12. Hi Paul, good idea about the dots, but I think I have come up with a pearler of an idea. But will wait until I am back at work to try it out.

Yes Dave posts on other sites, but he needs more exposure.

  13. Thanks Tim. 100% correct about the Matchbox Jeep. It blows Hasegawa ones out of the water and the Buffalo Airfix Jeep as well. I have never made the Airfix/Heller new ones though and they do look quite nice.

    Model On!

  14. Hey Paul. Great work. The Airfix/Heller Jeep is pretty nice, but the Academy one in terms of detail is a bit better and the Italieri fast build ones are excellent if you need lots in a hurry.

  15. Hi Dimitri. I have been looking at the fast build ones, but the price does not justify just two jeeps I think.

Academy on the other hand is a good buy with all the extra vehicles and kit.

    Well pointed out.

    Regards Paul
