Most of the construction complete. Dimitri from http://thecompletegreekgeek.blogspot.com/ warned me on a few issues on its construction and fit, but by actually not following the instructions and building it one side of the fuselage at a time I managed to cruise past any real issues.

However like most aircraft kits I build I did have to use a tad bit of putty. I also was disappointed to find that you can only build it with wheels down, and they are too thick to simply put in the wheel well without hanging out. My solution was to leave them off all together. You do not see the underside anyway.

Basecoat applied as well as the start of the disruptive scheme.

Disruptive scheme continued, as well as the matt yellow on the leading edges. I normally would not be naffed doing this but it really needs it to make it look like a Spitfire I think.

Decals applied. These were a dream to work with, no mess ups at all except for I did start too far forward with the rear band leading to the Squadron Code, Roundel and Aircraft Letter being a little too far forward as well. I will get over it rivet counters may weep however.

And here is where I am at. My bootneck mate Al has promised a pilot, so I will wait for one to show up before moving on with the canopy.
Model on!
Nicely done.

Cheers Nick, I have not built a Spitfire since about 1984. I still have its starboard wing which I am using for reference! (Well more of a colour guide)

Not my thing...but a good model indeed!
ReplyDeleteNice work there Paul!

That looks a bit of a stunner Paul! I think that the last time I built a (larger than 1/144 scale) Spit was in the '70s. I expect they were still in service somewhere back then!
ReplyDeleteVery nice work, I'm hopeless with airplanes.
ReplyDeleteNicely done indeed. You managed to do more with the bugger than I did. Did you try sanding the wheels before fitting them in the wells?

Looks good! Disruptive pattern is very nice.
ReplyDeleteLooking good mate, I finished a cheap one with my boy got to paint it on the weekend.
ReplyDeleteCheers Rich.
Cheers Thanos, I thought everyone loved a Spitfire!
ReplyDeleteRegards Paul
You ole honey dripper Tim. Even you are not that ancient mate.
ReplyDeleteI would have prefered the 144th scale for aircraft as well, but you work with what you have got.
Cheers Paul
Thanks Fran, I expect to mess it up in the next stage.

Thanks Dimitri. The wheels would need grinding rather than sanding as they are quite thick and I am a lazy git. The one you threw away could make a nice marker.
ReplyDeleteRegards Paul
Cheers Brian. I actually enjoyed trying to get it right...Rather than hoping to get it right.

Hi Rich...Do show!
ReplyDeleteThe Mk IX was the last business end of the Spitfire production line, the cannons look evil!
ReplyDeleteStrange about the gear down only modelling option
Yes Geordie. With the wheels down I suppose the have an excuse not to bother with a pilot.
