RNZAF Aerodrome Defence Unit

As part of my Festung NZ project (Thanks Tim, the name has catched on) I need to include a Squadron from the RNZAF Aerodrome Defence Unit. Used to defend Airfields and Air Force installations, these SQN's were the Kiwi version of the RAF Regiment. Above this stand ( No 1 Flight) has 8th Army and British Infantry from Matchbox. All these figures are all painted into the standard summer uniform of KD's with a mix of trousers and shorts. The 37 pattern webbing is painted into the RNZAF's green/grey colour, which was still around up until the early 80's when I was a Cadet.
Matchbox and a Airfix 8th Army conversion, which seemed like a good idea at the time, make up No 2 Flight.
And for No 3 Flight we have another mix including the classic Airfix 8th Army Bren gunner. A bugger of a pose to include on a stand.
Command Stand or HQ Flight from Airfix.
The complete SQN, which will be rated as trained. Something a bit from left field, I could also use it as No 1 RNZAF Aerodrome Construction Squadron which saw service in Malaya and Singapore.

  1. Very nice! Great to see oddball units being made up. Are you planning to make up any Home Guard units? And what TOE are you going to use for the invading enemy forces? I'm just full of questions today :)

  5. Hi Brian, yes HG forces are being planned as are TF army. Al was/is working on some of these units as well.

TOE, well its more of a raid rather than full scale invasion, and Al is providing the Japanese (9 Bn's worth I think)although I am supposed to get my a into g and get some Nippon armour ready

Yes you are full of questions for such an early time in the morning!

    Regards Paul

  6. Thanks Monty, they need a wash I think. I was pretty lazy on these and just wanted to get them off the table.

    Cheers Paul.

  7. Hi Tim, yes these fine fighting men are always forgotten about. They are the RNZAF's only all weather fighters!

    Actually the RNZAF's only fighters!

  8. Hi Bootneck, Support stands are limited to a Vickers stand in dual AA/SF MG roles and a 40mm Bofors gun which could in effect serve in a AT capacity.

PS: Can I get my HAT ANZAC leftovers back!!!
