Since getting back from the Tarawa Battle (Still some more to come)I have been working on building a 1980's British Battalion. They are pretty generic and can be a Regular Battalion or maybe a TA Battalion. As my genre is about 1986 it probably is more suited to the TA, as the SLR's and Stirling would be on the way out of Regular Infantry formations by then.
Command Stand, all figures are Matchbox NATO Paratroops with a few Head/Helmet swaps.
Rifle Platoon. Helmets came from the Revell Late War British.
2nd Rifle Platoon. I think these are a little later period than Al's version http://20thcenturywargames.blogspot.com/2011/06/cold-war-british-infantry.html of the same units.
Alpha Company complete, quite nice to get back to some Cold War Stuff. I have a scratch built WOMBAT on the table at the moment...Good times.
Model on!

Very cool. That DPM looks fantastic! How'd you do it? (You could even make a post about it, step by step...just a thought!)

Great stuff Paul, takes me back to being a young 'crow' back in the battalion in the 80's ;)
ReplyDeleteIs there no end to your modern C20th interests?
ReplyDeleteSeriously nice little unit
I will keep the Revell WWII Brits in mind if I ever get a 1980's British infantry unit together!
We (1 Glosters) were one of the first battalions (after the Guards? I seem to recall) to be issued the SA80/LSW and that was late 1997, so you can have a regular unit with SLR/GPMG until at least '88/89.
ReplyDeleteWhile a s-TA-b unit of the day would need to be female heavy, under strength and pissed!!! I should know; I joined one when I got out!
Great job! I love the Cold War era, especially the British. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteCheers Nick, I painted some more today so I will see about a step by step. Trust a blooming School Teacher to make me work during the Holidays!
ReplyDeleteHa! :-)
DeleteGlad I can take you back Monty. L4's in Regular Unit's?
ReplyDeleteThanks Geordie, these were undercoated about 6 months ago so I am a bit behind really.
ReplyDeleteYou need to post more armour!
Sounds like Territorial's are the same the world over Hugh. When did the Green denim trousers be replaced by the DPM's for everyday use?
ReplyDeleteCheers Austin, I can see by your blog you are very keen on Cold War.
ReplyDeleteRegards Paul
Nice figures, they'd do for later war Korea too, say 60s-80s
ReplyDeleteVery nice work Paul. Really like the camo.
ReplyDeleteHi Paul
ReplyDeleteI meant 1987 of course! 'Denim's' went quite soon after I got out I think? I seem to remember seing the new 'sack of spuds' DPM (part of the 'Soldier 90' kit (?)) being worn about 1991/2? by the kids wandering around Aldershot - were I was living at the time.
Barrack Dress trousers (dark green twill things) are - I think - still worn in some corps by office-wallas.
Your best yet, I think.
ReplyDeleteWe are up to Brigade Strength for our Brits now Al.
ReplyDeleteHi Roger, Tutorial on the way.
ReplyDeleteCheers Paul
I took that as 87 Hugh. Good to know that the Barracks trousers soldier on.
ReplyDeleteOh I think they are okay Tim, but not my best. In my heart I know I could have done better. Just like my School reports said.
ReplyDeleteSob, sob.
