The start of my Japanese forces will see a CD3 Battalion solely based on the Airfix Japanese figures. This is because I have a couple of hundred of them and would like to thin them down a tad. Above Rifle Platoon with the figure on the left has had a head swap with the helmet replaced with the cap. I have carried out a lot of swaps with these figures to get more poses into the Battalion.
2nd Rifle Platoon, and probably the Command stand. Both figures have had conversions carried out with a rifleman being made into a LMG operator and the rifleman having a head swap.
Last Rifle Platoon, again with two head swaps.
Full Company frontage. These had lots of flash and at times it was quite disheartening working with them. I also found references about the uniform colours very vague with no single standard being apparent. So forgive me if they seem a little uniform.
Model on!

Great work with the head swaps Paul. These guys look really nice. I wish now that I hadn't got ride of all those WW2 Airfix chaps I had.
ReplyDeleteNot the most sophisicated figures but they've turned out well.
ReplyDeleteThere uniform was a little dull but not their fault......nice work though.
ReplyDeleteIf you can lay your hands on Osprey's Men At Arms titles 362 & 369 these might be of help to you as they cover the Japanese Army from the 30s up to end of WW2. Both very good books imo.
ReplyDeleteTough looking troops, Paul. Ready to take on anything that's thrown at them. The more Pacific stuff you guys make, the more I'm inclined to start that Pearl Harbor invasion project. I keep threatening to do it and just might start the base coat on my Japanese this evening!
ReplyDeletePacific Theater is great - where else can you find a 37mm AT gun still in use and a viable threat on a battlefield in 1945?!
And that bunker of yours is also equally inspiring. Nice work! Cant wait to see these guys in use.

Oh they are still on the shelves Rodger. And from what I here the newer issue has no flash.
ReplyDeleteCheers Paul
Tim, that sophisticated look will turn up with the Matchbox Battalion.
ReplyDeleteYour ESCI Battalion, will however be next.
Hi Fran and Red.
ReplyDeleteThe various jumble of colours that have been presented as uniform is the real issue, Light Brown, tan, light green, jungle green...
The mix seems to never end. I might watch letters from Iwo Jima to get a feal for it.
Regards Paul
Good work Steven. It has taken me awhile to get into the mood for the Pacific, but it does make a nice change.
ReplyDelete37mm guns and Lee/Grant tanks go together well.
Watch out Hawaii!
Salut Michel,

I like the Airfix Japanese, they look sweet to me
ReplyDeleteWell done
Good Conversion and nice painted figures. I know that the Airfix Japanese soldiers are not the best on the market but I like them.
