Battling on into the New Year with B Company. Above Command Stand base.
1st Rifle Platoon Stand.
2nd Platoon. I try to include at least one LMG in each Company stand.
Company outing.
This Platoon has Matchbox's 8th Army in the rear with Airfix WW1 US Army head swap, while the foreground has the British Infantry with Airfix Forage cap head swap from the Luftwaffe set.
Matchbox 8th Army Bren gunner again with Airfix WW1 US Army headswap. The rear soldier is a standard Matchbox British Infantry pose.
The standard Airfix 8th Army pose is souped up with the SD cap replaced with a helmet. Interesting enough I have seen Hong Kong copies with this very pose created. The rear soldier in the stand is another Matchbox British Infantry pose with forage cap.

Great work on these figures Paul. Great subject matter. Have got some Crete, North Afrika games played in 2012?
ReplyDeleteHi Paul, cheers mate. I have posed these as 3 Div which served in NZ/Fiji/Norfolk Is/Samoa then onto the Island hopping with the US. Primary based for my Festung NZ project.
ReplyDeleteBy setting them in the pre island hopping uniforms I reckon I can use them also for Greece and Crete.
The Western Desert is a bridge too far at the moment as I don't want to start another theater of warfare.
I could just see the wifes face if I started making new purchases on vehicle I already have got because I wanted to paint them in a different scheme.
Regards Paul
Nice work again Paul. Really like your idea of doing the Kiwis.
ReplyDeletewhat do you use for flocking on the base of your troops?
ReplyDeleteGreat work, hopefully you will post even more 20mm goodness in 2012!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about the wife, she will never know.
ReplyDeleteI read recently in WWII the Australian and New Zealand governments wanted to unite the Anzac Corps again in the pacific by bringing home the NZ 2nd Div but MacArthur and Churchill were dead against it. Very strange why they would do that.
Good conversion work
ReplyDeleteCheers Rodger, being a Kiwi helps, plus I have a vested interest in the NZDF!
ReplyDeleteRegards Paul
Kind words WNT, I am having trouble with the goodness at the moments, but a rough patch every now and then never hurt anyone.
ReplyDeleteCheers Paul
Hi Paul, yes Churchill needed a shock type Div in North Africa and Italy. 2nd NZEF had a good reputation and Freyberg was a favorite of Churchill. NZ Div also almost always had a full strength ORBAT thanks to fairly excellent reinforcement planning and coordination. After bad experience with the British support we demanded and received our own Tank Brigade which also gave us more cards in the deck. The Div was then really a understrength Corps.
ReplyDeleteNZ Div was about 20% stronger than a comparable British Division and almost 25% stronger than a Aust/Indian Div. In my opinion You Aussies had too many Divisions in the field to properly support with reinforcements. Not taking anything away from the Australian soldier I might add!
MacArthur did not want another Colonial type in the area with their own agenda. It seems only the US were allowed were allowed Colonies (Philippines, Hawaii,Panama, Wake, Midway, American Samoa...) I think you will find he did not even want the Aussies (unless there was no photo opportunities) and always was finding ways of shafting you and to a lesser extent us in the goolies. Bennett had the moral courage and was shafted and Blamey faults in dealing with MacArthur are well known by now. Morshead was really needed in a level occupied by Bennett.
Thats my Kiwi take on it anyway. One eyed of course.
Regards Paul
Cheers Geordie. I like cutting figures up mate.
ReplyDeleteThey look real good my friend.....
ReplyDeleteTsold9000, I use simple coloured sawdust type flock.
