Still more Tarawa action, Green Beach seen here with Japanese strong points waiting for attention from my Marine Battalion.
Red 2 showing the mayhem of Japanese Arty and Tank hunter stands. The LVT's suffered as they did in real life.
I receive a Company of Shermans as reinforcements. Along with my Stuart this gave my Infantry a edge and I started to make some real progress.
Above, I get my Pack Howitzer off the beach and prepare to support my attack on the buildings at the end of the Airfield. The M3 and first Company awaited another Company before pressing in an attack.
My Company of Shermans start outflanking the Green Beach area defences and along with the blocking Company of my Marines head for the centre of the action. Japanese Armour now started to appear in my sector, giving my lead Rifle Platoons a puckering feeling down under.
Al's Japanese defensive possie at the end of the Airfield. Hits were achieved on this area, but those determined Japanese continued to hold...Which was rather ungentlemanly like.
Extended line attack going in on a ville.
My Arty support set up and in action. Davids 75mm gun and a jeep from my stash that I secretly added to my landing craft wave.

Looking good mate.Always good to see figures in action.
ReplyDeleteCheers Rich.
Thanks Rich, I agree. I am a firm believer in using what you make. Much more fun to play with them than just look!

Hard fighting!
ReplyDeleteGood AAR
Yes Geordie, those plucky Japanese are a tough nut to crack, my beach historically was the hardest but during the game my blocking on a flank prevented Al from carrying out to much trouble , however David had the most resistance during the game and I was glad I landed where I did.
ReplyDeleteI think I am better in a Battalion Commander role than larger formations. I get to engaged with my sub units.

"I receive a Company of Shermans as reinforcements. Along with my Stuart this gave my Infantry a edge and I started to make some real progress."
ReplyDeletePaul, that sentence should read "Along with my Stuart, this gave my infantry an edge..." Remember, it's 'an' when you want to use an 'a' in front of a word that starts with a vowel.
