I have been scratch building a Tube launched Optically tracked Wire command data link guided missile Stand for my Cold War US forces.
I was inspired after reading one of Brian posts from http://afistfullofplastic.blogspot.com/2012/01/tow-stands.html ,it was also apparent that my Battalion HQ needed something a little better than a M47 Dragon stand to deal with the Soviet metal storm. This will be classed as a separate weapon due to the long range of its flight and tactical emplacement on the battlefield.
Airfix 8th Army Vickers stand with a 1/35 scale 105mm shell and a spare part from a 1/35 M47 Dragon for the optic's. The barrel/missle was some spare part that I could not ID.
The spare missile tube is a piece of sprue cut down. Both figures are ESCI with the loader being a NATO Ground Crew pose with a fritz helmet attached.
The missile end is a little too long but other than that I am well pleased with the result.
Model on!

it's way too long,it should only be a few MM from the edge of the base
ReplyDeleteVery creative Paul. Your mind must be whizzing all the time for you to be able to keep coming up with all these ideas.
ReplyDeleteVery cool piece of kit mate, dare say you'll need something to move it with though
ReplyDeleteYep I know it Don, I might cut it back a bit, which will probably break it.
ReplyDeleteI am an ideas man like you say Rodger. Big on ideas small on substance!
ReplyDeleteBut Al, did you not see that Humvee in the background?
ReplyDeleteI am building a dedicated carrier now.
Not my period, but I'm always interested in people's ideas for scratchbuilding weapons, support troops, HQ elements and what not. I like your TOW and the WOMBAT - just the sort of shiny kit that gives a force a certain presence, a kind of... 'auctoritas'... on the table top.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Ion
Great work as usual Paul!
ReplyDeleteCheck the rules on that one, if it's not classed as a heavy infantry weapon you'll need something bigger:)
ReplyDeleteThat's a damn impressive piece of kit. Or rather pieces of several kits!
ReplyDeleteThanks Archduke. have differed for a while on the supporting aspects, but am starting to think outside the square.
ReplyDeleteThanks Monty. 30 or so minutes work. I actually spent more time on the painting of the figures.
ReplyDeleteMmmmm do the research....Wheres the fun in that!
ReplyDeleteCheers Tim, I knew you would appreciate it.
