In the opening gambit, lacking hard intel on whats located to his front Al, chooses an extended line advance. I am quite happy to see this as my defences can cope with the limited firepower afforded to this formation. A spearhead advance however would have perhaps helped the German commander in bringing the full weight of his assets onto my somewhat stretched defensive plan.
Panzer Grenadier Coy goes in on the left flank. The hedges do not slow down the advance, and the Germans remain optimistic of any real threats.
The centre and right flanks also make good time and the targets are now in sight.
Arty is called for and starts to hit targets.
My right flank Coy is spotted and receives attention.
In the centre the Nazi steel machine rolls on to deal with the nicely placed AT Platoon.
On the left flank Al targets a gap in the hedge which turns out to be my 76mm Infantry Gun Platoon.
The end result was predictable.
The next turn is messy, Al's Panzer Grenadiers decide to debuss onto my left flank Infantry Coy with attached AT Rifle Platoon at the Bicycle Factory.
I now have to show all my cards. In the trees in front of the town I have my 3rd Rifle Coy as reserve (2 up on down principal) and my Support Coy.
My Su-85 prowls out from the extreme left flank, causing much panic to the SdKfz 251's, now within range.
After a bloody tosh with the Infantry Coy, and with help from my Mortar Pl and ATR Pl, the Fritzes break contact and run. Very poor dice from Al in this contact and blooming amazing dice for me.
Just to show whose boss, as they run the mighty Red Army takes another Pl out.
This is me behind the Bicycle Factory. No good looting was found...
In the centre the Hun Tank Coy moves up the road and after an encounter with a Zis-3, one Pl moves back down the road.
The same Pl in the next turn, pulls their socks up, passes morale and decides to go back up the road...A picture tells a thousand words.
The Panzer Grenadier Coy Commanders track lost to a ATR Pl, shields the Pl as they try and work a way out of the mess.
While on the other side of the burning track, the same ATR Pl is saying "Bring it on!".
On the right Flank the German Recon Coy is minus their Commander as he hides while his track burns in the background.
Soviet Heroes from the Air arrive and hit the Recon Coy with reasonable results.
The Panzer Coy, now under strength still try's to muscle their way through the centre.
My AT Pl finally succumbs, but in a slap in the face takes out the 2nd Pl before gasping their last.
Another central AT Pl steps up to fill the gap. Scratch the last Panzer Pl. I have layer my defence with good arcs and it is paying off.
More to come...

A lovely selection of toys. Is that an Airfix Il-2? I'm so glad the bicycle factory has escaped unscathed - you may need one if Al targets your GAZ67!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Tim. Well spotted.

Al, has no need to worry about a poxy staff car...He has most concerning worries of his own.
The GAZ is by MAC or ACE and is most fragile.
