AAR Operation Munchausen Brief

Al and I partaked in a CD3 game set in March 1945 last night. Timed for the Spring Awakening offensive in Hungry, the game was centred around the fictional small industrial township of Moche with a POL farm being the main objective.
The glorious defenders (me) of the sector were a Battalion of Soviet Guards, a attached 3 Platoons worth of Zis-3 AT guns and finally a single SU 85 Platoon. Al did not know what I was actually fielding for this game as they were hidden with the exception of one AT Platoon.
The nasties (Kampfguppen Klarke or Al) were of course the Germans, who had manged to scratch up a Medium Armoured Recon Company of SdKfz 251's (Centre), a Medium Tank Company of Panzer IV's (centre left), a Armoured Panzer Grenadier Company in SdKfz 251's (left) and a Kampfguppen  HQ of a Staff Radio truck, SP AA Platoon, and the command staff Kubelwagon. Arty was available around the clock for the Germans in the form of  2 105mm Batteries off board.
As per normal the Air Support for the Heroic Red Machine was a Il-2 available from turn three. This could not be called upon on specific targets but the pilot had to rank the available targets instead. The cowardly fascist's had nil. One day someone had better tell Herman that his Air Force should turn up for a game set after 1943.
Principal target was this POL Farm, the crossroads were a secondary target and a bicycle factory also featured.
A Operations Order was produced for the Germans, while I just pointed my bold Soviet Guards in the right direction.
Opening shot of the table. My single visible AT Gun in the centre. A rumble of diesel engines then broke the silence of the countryside...

  8. Nice scenario. I tend to be more of a CD2 man myself, but I gather CD3 might be better for dealing with air?

By the way, I read as how during a 6-week period, I think around February and early March, the Germans had air superiority on the front east of Berlin. Hard to believe, isn't it?

Among my unfinished projects I hope to get started later this year is a 'Kustrin Highway' operation modified for Command Decision. There is Panzer Division whose tank strength is a bit scrawny, but, Man, you should see what the Panzer Grenadier companies have got! ...

    Cheers,
    Ion

    1. Hi Ion, I have never played CD2 so I could not tell you.

The Germans actually gave up the western front air war because the Soviets were deemed a bigger threat, as well they were.

I would be interested to know how the TOE's turn out for you.
